Event - Year 6's Maya Civilisation Day

In Year 6 we have been learning all about the Maya Civilisation.

It has been an exciting topic that was brought to life by having the only Maya Archaeologist in the UK, Dr Diane Davies, come into school to tell us all about her discoveries in the rainforest. She showed us videos of her excavating and photos of her life living alongside the remaining Maya people in Guatemala.

We learnt a lot about the different Maya achievements including; inventing a ball game (Pok-Ta-Pok), creating a number system, being the first to discover chocolate and even inspire the Star Wars films!

The children enjoyed a workshop with Dr Diane, where they explored Maya artefacts. this helped the children to discover how the Maya people lived and inspired the children to become future archaeologists!
