Event - Reception's Trip to Umberslade Farm

13 May 2014

First we visited the pigs and met the new-born piglets; they were very cute, but quite smelly! The sow, Peppa, jumped up to see over the wall to check we were looking after her babies. This didn't frighten Mrs Harltess.

On the way to the hens, we met several mummy ducks with their new baby ducklings, which we fed. In the hen pen we then fed the chickens and tried our best to catch them and pick them up. It was quite tricky as they were fast runners.

Next it was time to feed the lambs their milk. They were very hungry indeed! We also said hello to Turkey Lurkey. Afterwards, we got the chance to hold the small animals, such as rabbits, guinea-pigs and rats - they were so soft and cuddly.

Before lunch we enjoyed a tractor ride up and down the long, steep hill. We went underneath the tunnel and enjoyed singing 'Old MacDonald' on the way.

Our packed-lunches were enjoyed by all, followed by a trip to the outdoor playground as the weather was so nice. We even enjoyed the indoor ball soft-play and mini tractors to ride around on. To end a great day, we got the chance to feed the nanny goat. She tickled our hands as she gobbled up the food.

Reception Class all enjoyed their first class-trip at Maney Hill, as did the adults. The children's behaviour was exemplary; we are very proud of them and look forward to going on mote trips together.
